Literacy Week & Read Across America 2/28/2014

What a wonderful week!!! Aeolian students got to dress up each day! Wednesday was Literacy Night! We had a great turnout with three sessions: two focusing on new common core Reading and Writing standards and a session held in the Aeolian Media Center focusing on Reading websites that parents and students can access. Students who attended got to be invited to a popsicle party!

On Friday, we had a visit from the Cat in the Hat along with his buddies…Thing 1 and Thing 2! They made such a mess on campus causing so much commotion. Mrs. Martinez read the famous book by Dr. Seuss called The Cat in the Hat to our kindergarten through third grade students at a morning assembly. We had community readers from all over visit our school to read to our students. The fire department and police came, high school students from St. Paul and Pioneer came, parents, and many, many others…with a total of about 70 readers!!

Our family picnic was rained out, but parents were invited to eat lunch with their children in their classrooms. They still had a fun time!

Lastly our fourth through sixth graders played relay games inside the Aztec Cafe with the Pioneer High School Baseball team towards the end of the day. Again, what a great day filled with fun and the love of reading!!
