On September 21, 2012, the 2012-2013 Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year luncheon was held in Universal City. Teachers who were named by their school district as the 2012-2013 "Teacher of the Year" gathered to receive accolades from LA County Office of Education Superintendent, Dr. Arturo Delgado, and a scroll of appreciation from Los Angeles County Supervisor, Gloria Molina.
The Los Nietos School District 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year, Diana Mireles, enjoyed the event and appreciated the company of her husband Richard as well as her principal, Becky Speh, and Los Nietos Superintendent Jonathan Vasquez. What made the event more special was the space shuttle Endeavour flying over Universal City several times where the Teacher of the Year Luncheon was held.
