A Dream Come True

Nearly ten years ago, our old library was converted to a classroom. Some books were dispersed to classroom libraries. Others were worn and out of date and had to be discarded.

Aeolian parents were determined to create a real library for their children. Led by Parent Teacher Club officers Cindy Waugh and Adriana Martinez, parents collected books by the thousands. They raised money to buy shelves and cozy tables and chairs. They contacted literacy organization Book Ends, which donated 10,000 books. The Bring Me a Book Foundation donated two racks of books and Book Buddies provided more than 300 books to be given to Aeolian students.

Support from Principal Ruiz and the Los Nietos District included a dedicating a room, the services of librarian LeahTrujillo and an up-to-date checkout digital system.

Dozens of Aeolian parents and family members – including Aeolian alumni – donated time to clean and decorate the library and above all, to organize books. Aeolian faculty and students helped, too. Students donated their own books; art club members created signs for the shelves.

Now it’s time to enjoy our new library. We all know that to achieve academic success, students need to read every day. Our new library is overflowing with books kids will want to read! It is colorful, comfortable and inviting. Stop by and check it out. Congratulations to our PTC, and thank you for a gift that will benefit the Aeolian community for years to come.
